National Museum of Abruzzo (Museo Nazionale d'Abruzzo) Abruzzo's national museum is housed in the Forte Spagnolo, an impressive 16th-century Spanish castle. Inside are artifacts from the region, ancient wooden sculptures, religious art and ceramics. Perhaps its most famous and popular resident, however, is the skeleton of a wooly mammoth, found near the town in the early 1950s. Address: Viale Benedetto Croce. L'Aquila AQ Italy
