Fontana delle 99 Cannelle The Fontana delle 99 Cannelle, erected in the 13th century, has provided fresh water to the city ever since, the source of which remains a mystery today. The supply has saved L'Aquila's population more than once, however, and the fountain is now the symbol of the city. There are supposedly 99 carved gargoyles and other faces, but most visitors who take the time to count end up with a completely different total. Address: Piazza del Duomo L'Aquila AQ Italy
